In a sparkling online ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong joined forces to virtually unveil the second phase of the JNPort PSA Terminal, also known as BMCT, on Thursday. With this grand addition, the terminal's container handling ability jumps to an impressive 4.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Guess what? This makes JNPort the beating heart of container shipping in India! India's top container port is no ordinary dockyard. It showcases five super-specialized container terminals run by global giants. With a deep draft of over 15 metres, these terminals can welcome massive vessels that carry up to 18,000 TEUs. Now, that's what you call heavyweight shipping! The event sparkled with the presence of important figures like Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur, the Managing Director of PSA India, Gobu Selliaya, and JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh. JNPA is a big name in India's shipping saga, handling a stunning 54 percent of all containerized cargo docked at major Indian ports. So, what does this all mean? The boost in capacity makes India's trade and shipping even more powerful, quicker, and ready for the future. Thanks to this great teamwork between India and Singapore, the country's container port is set to rock the ocean lanes like never before!
