Coal India, the state-run mining giant, has just thrown down the gauntlet in a major green energy move! On 5 September 2025, the company launched tenders for massive solar and wind power projects spread across several Indian states. The plan? To develop a staggering 3 gigawatts (GW) of grid-connected solar power and 2 GW of windy power - yes, wind power! The solar projects themselves will be huge, each ranging from 200 megawatts (MW) up to a colossal 3 GW. One strict rule for these solar giants? They must have a Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of at least 25%. This means the solar plants need to shine bright enough to produce power efficiently! Where is all this sunshine and breeze going to be harnessed? The projects are spread out in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Locations are thoughtfully chosen near interstate transmission system (ISTS) networks to smoothly carry the power across states. But the job doesn’t end with just building these plants. Selected developers will handle start to finish – from design, engineering, supply, procurement to construction, testing, commissioning, and even operation and maintenance services. Yes, the entire package is up for grabs! Currently, Coal India has about 200 MW of solar power installed, but the ambition is truly massive. They aim to boost renewable energy capacity to 3 GW by 2028 and then rocket it to 9.5 GW by 2030. This huge push signals Coal India’s serious commitment to greening India’s energy future. With this move, Coal India steps boldly into the spotlight on India’s renewable stage. The combination of solar and wind power plans is like mixing spices in the perfect curry – powerful, strategic, and full of energy! Stay tuned for India’s green revolution getting supercharged by Coal India’s mega projects.
