Get ready for a heartfelt visit! On Monday, September 15, 2025, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi landed in flood-hit Amritsar, Punjab, where nature's wrath had left many struggling. Warmly welcomed by top party leaders like Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Mr. Gandhi wasted no time. He headed straight to Ghonewal village in Amritsar’s Ajnala, one of the worst affected spots where floodwaters had turned life upside down. There, Rahul Gandhi sat among the flood-hit villagers, listening closely to their stories and damage reports. This close interaction showed his deep concern for those impacted by the disaster. After Ghonewal, he planned to visit the iconic Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib in Amritsar’s Ramdas area to offer prayers and later move on to more flood-affected zones in Gurdaspur district. Punjab suffered one of its worst floods in decades. The heavy rains combined with swollen Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, along with seasonal streams flooding from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, made the situation severe. Sadly, 56 lives were lost, and crops on roughly 1.98 lakh hectares were destroyed. Earlier, on September 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew over the flood-affected areas and announced ₹1,600 crore in financial aid on top of ₹12,000 crore already allocated to Punjab. Union Ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, L. Murugan and B.L. Verma also toured the flood zones to check on relief efforts. In these tough times, Rahul Gandhi’s boots-on-the-ground visit and his heartfelt connection with victims bring hope and show a united front in Punjab’s fight to rebuild after the fury of the floods.
