Hannah Einbinder, star of HBO’s hit show "Hacks," made a sparkling splash at the Emmy Awards on September 14, 2025, when she won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. But the real drama wasn’t just on the stage—it was in her powerful, uncensored acceptance speech that the live TV broadcast silenced! The moment took a sharp political turn after her cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles as she ended with a blazing shout: "Go Birds, f** ICE and free Palestine."
This bold statement was quickly bleeped out on the live broadcast. However, uncensored clips surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the full force of her message. The speech came amid the backdrop of ongoing ICE raids, part of a hard-line deportation policy pushed during former President Donald Trump’s administration, which hit cities like Los Angeles, where the awards took place.
Einbinder kicked off her speech on a light-hearted note, humorously recalling her past Emmy losses. “I was just really committed to the personal narrative that I had that it was actually cooler to continue to lose,” she joked, "But this is cool too! This is also punk rock.” She then expressed deep gratitude to the creators of "Hacks" – Jen Statsky, Paul W. Downs, and Lucia Aniello – calling them “my friends and my family.” She lavished praise on fellow winner Jean Smart, describing her as “like a sun, and I just get to stand in her warmth.”
However, it’s her political activism that often grabs eyeballs. Back in March 2025, at the Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles, Einbinder spoke about the responsibility of queer visibility in politics. Identifying as Jewish, she critiqued Israel’s actions in the Middle East, highlighting her horror at the killing of Palestinians in Gaza. She spoke out against the US funding those actions with taxpayer dollars and said, “it should be common sense to oppose the murder of civilians.”
She solemnly mourned, "I mourn for all of the Palestinian lives taken by the Israeli government, entire families and bloodlines destroyed. I also mourn deeply for the 1,200 Israelis killed by Hamas on October 7 and the ongoing suffering of the Israeli hostages."
Einbinder is a fiery pro-Palestine supporter and joined a powerful group of 3,900 entertainment industry figures who signed a letter pledging to avoid working with Israeli institutions tied to what they called “genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.”
Her uncensored Emmy moment has sparked heated debates across Hollywood and beyond— proving once again that sometimes an award speech can be much more than just a thank you. It’s a megaphone for bold voices and pressing political issues.
