Heavy Rain Fury: Erode Faces Floods, Sewage Invasion, and Railway Water Woes!

September 22, 2025

A fierce monsoon showdown hit Erode on Sunday night, September 21, 2025! The city battled heavy rains for four straight days, but Sunday’s downpour was particularly brutal. In Kollampalayam, nearly 50 homes on Kattabomman Street faced a nightmarish mix of rainwater and sewage crashing into their living rooms. Water stagnated everywhere due to overflowing sewage channels, forcing residents to rush their belongings to higher ground. Revenue officials acted fast, moving the affected families to a nearby school and providing food. Thankfully, the waters receded early the next day, letting families return home on Monday morning. The troubles didn’t stop at homes. Erode railway station turned into a watery maze as rainwater sneaked into the premises by Sunday night. Paths leading to platforms and the ticket counters were drowned, making passengers wade through murky pools. Only after hard work from conservancy staff was the station cleared. Meanwhile, waterlogging also plagued key spots like the railway underpass in K.K. Nagar, Vendipalayam, and Kollampalayam. This incident marked the second time in just four days that sewage water flooded houses in Kollampalayam, stirring anger among locals. One frustrated resident said, "This is a vulnerable area where flooding occurs every rainy season. Bushes and trees in the sewage channel block the flow of water, causing it to enter our houses." They urged authorities to "remove the growth and desilt the channel regularly." Another resident highlighted a sharp bend in the sewage channel making matters worse. "Either it is flash floods or sewage water, the civic body should have taken all precautionary measures," they snapped. Residents are demanding quick and strong action to stop this cycle of flooding. They point fingers at unchecked plant growth and poor maintenance along the sewage channel that keeps putting their homes at risk every time the rains fall hard. On Monday, Collector S. Kandasamy and Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain visited the flood-hit zones. They met officials and discussed plans to tackle the flooding problem once and for all. Let’s hope for quicker solutions so that the rains bring life and not chaos in Erode!
