Lebanon confirmed that an Israeli strike in its southern region left two individuals injured, one being a soldier. The incident occurred near the Beit Yahun checkpoint in the Bint Jbeil district, approximately eight kilometers from the border. The strike, reportedly conducted by an Israeli drone, targeted a vehicle. The soldier sustained moderate injuries due to the attack. The Lebanese army and health ministry verified the casualties. Despite a truce in November aimed at ending over a year of conflict, Israel has persisted with raids on Lebanon. The ceasefire required Hezbollah to retreat its fighters north of the Litani River and dismantle any remaining military infrastructure in the southern region. In response, Israel was to withdraw all forces but maintains strategic troop presence in five areas. Lebanon, in compliance with the ceasefire, has been deploying its army in the south, dismantling Hezbollah's military setups. The ceasefire was established based on a UN Security Council resolution, mandating Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers as the only permissible forces in southern Lebanon, and demanding the disarmament of all non-state groups. President Joseph Aoun highlighted that Lebanon's military controls over 85% of the south, with Israeli occupation of five border positions being the primary obstacle to complete control. Recent incidents in April, including a munitions blast that killed three personnel and a soldier's death during mine dismantling, underscore the ongoing tensions in the region.
