Gunman Shoots at Dallas ICE Office: One Dead, Two Hurt, Shooter Dies in Anti-ICE Attack

September 25, 2025

A shocking shooting rocked a Dallas immigration field office on Wednesday morning! A gunman perched on a nearby roof fired a bolt-action rifle at a van holding three detainees outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. Tragically, one detainee died and two others were seriously hurt. The shooter ended his own life on the spot, making it a deadly and indiscriminate attack targeting ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed that ammunition found at the scene had bold anti-ICE messages written on it. One bullet even had “ANTI-ICE” marked clearly! DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called it "This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE." Following the incident, Noem ordered an immediate boost in security at ICE facilities all over the country. Who were the victims? All three were detainees held by ICE, but officials kept their identities under wraps. Mexico’s foreign ministry confirmed one wounded person was Mexican and seriously injured. They reached out to the family to offer help and legal support. Originally, DHS mistakenly reported that two detainees were dead, then corrected that only one died, while the other two remain critical. Thankfully, no law enforcement officers were hurt. Who was this mysterious gunman? Authorities named him Joshua Jahn, 29 years old, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot. FBI agents searched a Dallas suburban home linked to him. Jahn had a curious past — he briefly worked in Texas solar jobs and even in the marijuana scene in Washington state. Ryan Sanderson, owner of a cannabis farm in Washington, said, “He was lost, and I didn't expect him to be crazy... Didn't really seem to have any direction, living out of his car at such a young age.” Jahn had a felony marijuana delivery conviction in 2016 and served five years probation. The shooter’s weapon was a bolt-action rifle. Later that day, authorities swarmed a law office building near the ICE site. A medical examiner’s van came; a body was taken away in a black bag. Why did this terrifying attack happen? The FBI pointed to the anti-ICE ammunition as evidence. Senator Ted Cruz blamed hateful political rhetoric, saying, "This is the third shooting in Texas directed at ICE or CBP. This must stop." He warned politicians to stop demonizing ICE agents and calling for people to harass their families. Democrats, however, accused Cruz of twisting facts to push a political point. Democratic Congressman Marc Veasey expressed outrage, saying officials seemed hesitant to admit detainees were victims because "they don't want migrants to be the victim in this story." The violent episode took place at the Dallas ICE office near Interstate 35 East, close to Dallas Love Field Airport. This ICE field office handles short-term processing of detainees who may have been recently arrested. This attack is not alone. On July 4, a police officer at a Texas immigration detention center was shot in the neck by armed attackers dressed in military gear. On July 7, another shooting targeted federal agents leaving a U.S. Border Patrol facility near McAllen, Texas. The attacker died, a police officer was wounded, and more weapons were found in his car. These shocking events raise serious questions about safety and political words fueling violence at ICE facilities. With lives lost and tensions rising, the nation watches closely as DHS steps up protection—and debates heat up over immigration enforcement and public safety.
