The battle against Delhi’s choking pollution just got a new twist! Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that the city’s government is fully ready to tackle pollution head-on. How? With cloud seeding operations, after the Centre gave the official thumbs-up. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to perform cloud seeding in Delhi during October and November. This was confirmed by officials on Wednesday, setting the stage for an innovative step to clear the Delhi skies. Talking at an event in the bustling Chandni Chowk, Rekha Gupta declared, “We are fully geared to fight pollution. The government is making all possible efforts to protect people from pollution.” She showed the city’s determination to act fast and smart. But, as expected, politics adds spice to every move! The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fiercely criticised the BJP-led Delhi government. Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP Delhi unit president, reminded everyone that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government had repeatedly asked the Centre for cloud seeding permission before, but the Centre ignored them. “The Arvind Kejriwal government had multiple times approached the Centre for permission to conduct cloud seeding operations in Delhi, but at that time the central government showed step-motherly treatment and did not give permission,” Bharadwaj said. He also called out the BJP’s past sarcasm: they used to mock cloud seeding, saying it was impossible. “I want to ask them if it was not possible then and was a waste of money, how is it feasible now,” he questioned sharply. Adding fuel to the fire, Bharadwaj asked, “I also want to ask them if they would criticise the cracker ban imposed by the Supreme Court now?” He pointed to BJP leader and current Delhi minister Kapil Mishra, who once boldly said he would burst crackers. “I want to ask them what they will do it now. The people of Delhi are seeing the difference between the words and actions of the BJP,” Bharadwaj said, highlighting the ongoing tug-of-war over pollution control strategies and public promises. With cloud seeding ready to roll and political jabs flying, Delhi's war against pollution is as intense as ever. Will the skies clear up? Time will tell!
