The state government's plan to introduce apprenticeship embedded degree programmes (AEDP) in autonomous colleges in Mumbai is facing reluctance from college principals. Many colleges are concerned about the lack of preparation and infrastructure to implement the new initiative seamlessly. Admissions have already started, making it difficult for colleges to introduce a new program or convert an existing one into AEDP without disrupting their academic schedule. The requirement to sign MoUs with industries further complicates the process, as colleges are finding it challenging to arrange agreements at short notice. Additionally, the lack of physical infrastructure and teaching staff availability during vacation poses obstacles for colleges looking to align with the AEDP framework. While some colleges have expressed readiness to launch AEDP, others are unsure about their ability to meet the requirements this year. The delay in implementing AEDP is a cause of concern for colleges, as it may impact student enrollment and academic planning. Despite government efforts to facilitate the transition to AEDP, colleges are struggling to overcome logistical and administrative challenges. However, there are instances where colleges have successfully initiated AEDP, showcasing the potential for effective implementation with adequate preparation and support.
