IndiGo Doubles Airbus A350 Jet Order to 60 to Boost Global Long-Haul Flights

October 18, 2025

IndiGo has just made a power move to rule the global skies! The airline has doubled its order for wide-body jets, firming up for 30 more Airbus A350-900 aircraft, bringing the total to 60. This bold step signals IndiGo’s big dream: to grow its long-haul international routes and connect India better with the world. This news came hot after IndiGo and Airbus signed a special deal at the IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi in June 2025. IndiGo took advantage of 30 out of its 70 purchase rights for the A350 family, saving 40 for later. Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, said, "We solidify our commitment to expanding our international footprint and offering unparalleled connectivity to our customers." He called the firm order a bold sign of faith in Indian aviation’s bright future and the airline’s friendship with Airbus. He dreams of IndiGo becoming a top global airline by 2030. On the other hand, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry of Airbus praised the A350’s top fuel efficiency, range, and comfort, matching IndiGo’s hunger for growth. He said this deal "reinforces a strong partnership with one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world." The A350-900 jets will fly on Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, famous for cutting fuel use by 15-25% compared to older engines. This combo of aircraft and engine means IndiGo can fly longer and farther, reaching new cities with ease. IndiGo’s huge fleet now totals about 1,400 planes including many A320neo, A321neo, and A321XLR jets. Already, the airline has over 455 aircraft in service. Airbus has globally delivered 648 A350s out of 1,391 orders by May 2025. IndiGo operates over 2,200 flights daily across 90 domestic and 40 international routes. Its long-haul journey includes flights to Manchester and Amsterdam, with London, Copenhagen, and Athens coming soon. The new A350s are expected to arrive starting mid-2027, ushering in a new era of smooth, global travel. IndiGo is zooming fast to becoming India’s global aviation champ!
