Oh wow! Kerala is currently drenched by heavy rains, especially in its high-range areas. The weather has become a big headache as six districts — Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod — got the loud orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Even Lakshadweep is not spared! "Orange alert" means very heavy rainfall from 11 to 20 cm in just 24 hours. The other eight districts have a yellow alert, meaning heavy rain between 6 and 11 cm. The toughest hit? Idukki district! It's like the rains went wild with floods and scary mudslides shaking Nedumkandam, Kumily, and Kattappana. Water sneaked into many homes and shops, so people had to be moved to relief camps to stay safe. Now, more trouble at the dams. The Mullaperiyar dam, managed by Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department, is showing its strength — but not in a good way! Due to relentless rain, the water level rose to 139.30 feet at 5 am. To relieve pressure, officials opened 13 spillway shutters by 100 cm, discharging 1,400 cusecs of water. And guess what? Three other dams in the district are also releasing water to stay safe. In Ernakulam, heavy rain overnight caused floodwaters near the busy Ernakulam Junction railway station, where renovations are going on. The district administration is on high alert due to rising river levels. Other districts like Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Kannur aren’t staying dry either; they recorded heavy rainfall as well. Malappuram’s green fields are getting soaked, with floodwaters entering agricultural lands and damaging crops. Talk about a farmer’s nightmare! Fishermen, beware! Rough weather is not planning to leave soon. Officials warn not to venture into the sea until October 22 for safety reasons. So, Kerala’s monsoon magic has turned into a wet whirlpool with nature showing its power. Stay alert, stay safe!
