Jyothi Surekha Vennam Shines Bright, Wins Historic Bronze at Archery World Cup Final 2025

October 20, 2025

Kolkata witnessed a proud moment for Indian sports as Jyothi Surekha Vennam became the first Indian woman compound archer to win a medal at the Archery World Cup Final. The event was held in Nanjing, China, where she secured the glittering bronze on Saturday. The world No. 3 Jyothi ended her season with a spectacular performance. She fired an incredible 15 perfect 10s to beat Great Britain's Ella Gibson 150-145 in the bronze medal match. Talk about nerves of steel and sharp focus! Her journey was truly inspiring. Jyothi began confidently by defeating USA’s Alexis Ruiz 143-140 in the quarterfinals. But in the semifinals, she faced a nail-biting challenge against world No.1 Andrea Becerra of Mexico. Jyothi led after three ends, 87-86, but Becerra’s sizzling three 10s in the final end turned the tables, handing Jyothi a close 143-145 defeat. Jyothi is from Challapalli, Andhra Pradesh, and is the reigning Asian Games champion. This medal is her 88th in her brilliant career. Importantly, it marks her first podium finish in the World Cup Final after three tries – earlier she had early exits in Tlaxcala (2022) and Hermosillo (2023). The excitement wasn’t over for Indian fans. Rishabh Yadav came very close to winning a medal in men’s compound, losing in a heart-stopping shoot-off to former world champion Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands. They tied 147-147 before Schloesser edged ahead in the shoot-off. This day was a big step for Indian archery and women’s sports, showing that the archers from India are now shining on the global stage. As Jyothi’s amazing bronze proves, dreams do come true with hard work and focus!
