In a lively press meet in Patna on October 26, 2025, RJD leader and Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav gave a promise-packed speech that caught everyone’s attention. He announced that if the INDIA bloc comes to power in Bihar, the allowances of representatives in the panchayati raj system will be doubled! That’s right, a massive boost for the hardworking mukhiyas, pramukhs, and adhyakshas who lead at gram panchayat, panchayat samiti, and zila parishad levels. But wait, there’s more! Tejashwi also declared a whopping ₹50 lakh insurance cover and pension scheme for these leaders. He explained this much-needed safety net during the press conference, hoping to provide financial security to these grassroots heroes. The panchayati raj system, for those who might not know, includes three crucial governance layers: the zila parishad, panchayat samiti, and gram panchayat. Each level has leaders called adhyaksha, pramukh, and mukhiya respectively. Tejashwi didn’t stop there. He said, “If the INDIA bloc is voted to power, we will also substantially increase the margin money, per quintal, of distributors of the public distribution system (PDS) in the state.” This means better earnings for those distributing essential supplies to the people. Plus, he announced a special scheme to support everyday heroes like barbers, potters, and carpenters. “We will provide ₹5 lakh interest-free loans to barbers, those engaged in the pottery business, and carpenters in the State,” he added, showing his focus on uplifting small workers and artisans. All these promises come just ahead of the big event — Bihar’s 243-member Assembly elections. Voting will happen in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results to be declared on November 14. Will these boost Tejashwi’s party chances? Only time will tell!
