The University of Virginia (UVA) Police Division is on high alert and investigating reports of a potential active attacker near Shannon Library in Charlottesville. This comes after an active shooting alert rocked the UVA area. However, in a calming update at 3:58 PM, police stated, "there is currently no evidence of an active attack" but firmly asked students and staff to keep following the "RUN-HIDE-FIGHT" safety plan as a strong precaution. In a series of quick updates on X, UVA Police shared details about the incident. Their 3:58 PM message read: "UVA Emergency Alert: 3:58 PM. Update - Police are continuing to investigate at Shannon Library. At this time there is no evidence that an attack has occurred. Continue to follow RUN-HIDE-FIGHT protocol until All Clear is issued." Earlier at 3:41 PM, the police had already informed the public: "UVA Emergency Alert: 3:41 PM. Update - Police are continuing to investigate at Shannon Library. At this time there is no evidence of an Active Attacker. Continue to RUN-HIDE-FIGHT." Throughout the afternoon, authorities kept the community posted as they remained on-site. They also limited access to academic buildings on campus, allowing entry only through controlled points to ensure everyone’s safety. This tense and fast-moving situation is still developing. UVA Police urge everyone to stay alert and follow safety instructions closely. More updates will be shared as the story unfolds.
