May 25, 2025

Dust storms and rain have disrupted life in Rajasthan, leading to casualties and destruction. In Khairthal-Tijara district, a woman and her daughter lost their lives when a wall collapsed on them. The storm uprooted electric poles and trees in Bikaner, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu, causing power outages. Barmer and Jaisalmer were engulfed in dust, affecting visibility. The weather department has issued alerts for intense heat in certain districts. In Bhiwadi town, Sumaya and her one-year-old daughter were tragically buried alive under a collapsed wall. The woman's husband survived but sustained injuries. Electric poles were uprooted, and hoardings fell on power lines, disrupting electricity. Despite restoration efforts, power outages persisted in several locations. In Sikar, an electric tower collapsed due to the storm, compounding the power supply issues. Barmer and Jaisalmer experienced reduced visibility due to the dust storm. Jhunjhunu faced strong winds and rainfall, leading to power outages. Ganganagar and Hanumangarh were also affected by the severe weather. Some areas like Jodhpur and Jaisalmer received rainfall. Hanumangarh's Nohar recorded the highest rainfall at 53 mm, followed by Pilani in Jhunjhunu with 49.8 mm, Sikar with 38 mm, and Tijara with 35 mm. Barmer saw the highest maximum temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius, well above normal levels. The weather department issued a red alert for intense heat in Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Bikaner, an orange alert for Jodhpur, and a yellow alert for Nagaur, Pali, Jalore, Bhilwara, and Chittorgarh districts for Monday.
