Imphal is buzzing with politics as Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the head of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), fires a sharp criticism at BJP’s recent visit to the state. Singh has called BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh’s trip to Manipur "election-driven" and says it did nothing to solve the ongoing troubles in the state. Why is the fresh election delayed? Singh asks. BJP has been unable to form a government, so why wait? This question echoes loudly. The Congress party is loudly demanding the immediate dissolution of Manipur’s state assembly and pushing for fresh elections. They blame the BJP for failing to bring peace since the turmoil began in May 2023. The people in Manipur still suffer, with communities divided and no sign of normal life returning. At a special event marking the 136th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, held at the Congress Bhawan, Singh didn't hold back. He pointed fingers at BJP leaders BL Santhosh and Sambit Patra, calling their visit a political show. "Their visit clearly reflects election motives as disclosed even by their MLAs. They have neglected the core issues of Manipur and are not serious about resolving the unprecedented crisis," Singh said. He also highlighted the sad state of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been stuck in relief camps since May 2023. "It’s almost three years, yet there is no initiative for dialogue between communities, no free movement, and no proper implementation of schemes," he added. This means the people caught in this crisis are still waiting for real solutions. Singh’s bold words bring out the frustration and impatience growing in Manipur. The Congress is determined to shake things up and push for quick elections, hoping to end the political deadlock and bring peace back to this beautiful but troubled land.
