In a digital age, Indian classical music and dance are experiencing a revival among the youth. At the recent SPIC MACAY event held at IIT Hyderabad, students from various parts of the country came together to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of classical music and dance. The event showcased performances by renowned artists like Sheikh Mahaboob Subhani, Kaleeshabi Mahaboob, Warsi brothers, Raja and Radha Reddy, and N Rajam. The audience, predominantly comprising youngsters, expressed their fascination and admiration for the diverse musical heritage of India. Classical music and dance were lauded for their vibrancy, expressiveness, and ability to sharpen focus and alleviate stress. Students like Inayat Puri, Saanvi Mahanadru, and Ananya Nimmala shared how classical music and dance have had a profound impact on their lives, enhancing their coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, as well as focus and discipline. Participants at the event, such as Nilay Parsodkar, a tabla player and BDes student at IIT Hyderabad, highlighted the importance of cultural activities in maintaining mental and physical well-being. The convergence of classical and devotional traditions in performances like qawwali by the Warsi brothers and Hindustani violin concert by N Rajam left the audience spellbound. The event also saw the presence of Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, underlining the cultural significance of classical arts in modern times.
