A British-Indian person of Assamese origin, Ayesha Hazarika, has become a member of the House of Lords in the British Parliament. She is a journalist, broadcaster, and stand-up comic. Hazarika’s ancestral roots are in North Lakhimpur, Assam, and she was born and raised in Coatbridge, Scotland. She comes from an Indian Muslim family and is the daughter of Liyaqat Ali Hazarika, a doctor who immigrated to Glasgow in the 1960s. Hazarika has previously worked as a special adviser to British politicians and was honored with the Member of the Order of the British Empire title.
