Telangana State Food Laboratory officials have seized a stock of cotton candy laced with a potent carcinogen at a cultural festival site. The industrial dye, Rhodamine B, used as a food color, is banned due to its cancer-causing properties. The State has pledged to take action against the use of the dye in food products as it poses both immediate and long-term health risks. Other states in India have also imposed bans or increased surveillance to detect the use of such substances.
