BJP has dropped Hindutva firebrand Anantkumar Hegde and ignored the strong pitch made by Sumalatha Ambareesh in the fifth list of LS candidates. Former speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri will contest from Uttara Kannada, while former CM Jagadish Shettar will face Mrunal in a battle for Belgaum. K Sudhakar and Raja Amareshwar Naik are among the other candidates announced. The party is yet to announce its nominee for Chitradurga.

A Goa court has extended the police custody of Suchana Seth, CEO of a startup, by five days for the alleged murder of her four-year-old son. Seth was brought before the Goa Children’s Court after her initial remand of six days expired. The Calangute Police requested the extension, stating that the investigation is still ongoing. Seth, aged 39, was arrested on January 8 in Chitradurga, Karnataka while travelling in a taxi with her son’s body concealed in a bag. She was subsequently brought to Goa.
