Shortly before receiving the survey report on the backwardness of the Maratha community, the Maharashtra government removed retired judge Chandralal Meshram from his post as a member of the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission (MSBCC). Meshram had objected to changes in the criteria and questionnaire for the survey and questioned the timing of the special assembly session on Maratha reservation. This article discusses the concerns raised by Meshram and the implications of his removal from the commission.
