Indian defence services are looking into bringing aboard 30 MQ-9B drones, an advancement of the MQ-9 “Reaper” used for missile launches in Afghanistan against al-qaeda leader, from the US. This alleged discussion took place between India and US ministries in April 2022. The purpose to invest such hefty drones is to tighten surveillance upon the eastern Ladakh areas after China’s invasion in Galwan Valley, as well as to look upon the parameters of the Indian Ocean region. These drones, with 35 hours of air capacity, loading space of 4 Hellfire missiles and 450kg of explosives, are built with advanced technology of sustaining for long durations.

The discussions to sanction Indian defence forces to buy equipment under emergencies and speculations of war, are being considered. Under this allowance, the traditional time of estimated 5 years to acquire weaponry, will be cut short on a fast-track basis and permit the forces to directly pick up ammunition without the approval of MoD. Special instructions include buying of only Indian instruments and a budget of 500 crore per unit. A significant meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the three Chiefs and the Defence Secretory concerning the same will be held soon.
