An egg-laying mammal known as Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna, presumed extinct for decades, was spotted in Indonesia using camera traps in the Cyclops Mountains of Papua Province. The unique mammal belongs to the monotreme species and is one of the five remaining species of egg-laying mammals. The discovery was made by an international team of researchers after four weeks of deployment and collaboration with local communities. The team also found other previously unknown species during the expedition.
