Development economist Jayati Ghosh emphasised the need for proactive climate policies that address the specific challenges faced by women in India, where there is a significant gender pay gap. Speaking at a photo exhibition organised by Poovulagin Nanbargal, Ghosh highlighted the importance of recognising women’s unpaid work in climate adaptation, reducing the adverse impacts and burden of unpaid work, redistributing unpaid work within families, financially rewarding unpaid workers, and representing women’s interests and needs at a policy level. The exhibition showcased the lives of women affected by the oil spill in Ennore and the coal mines of Neyveli.
