The Indian government has announced plans to end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the India-Myanmar border. The FMR, implemented in 2018, allows visa-free travel for residents within 16 km of the border. However, it has been misused by insurgent groups to carry out attacks and escape to Myanmar.
