Israel is preparing for a ground assault in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in retaliation for an attack by Hamas militants on Israeli towns. Palestinians living in Gaza have been ordered to flee towards a closed border with Egypt. Israel has also warned Hezbollah not to start a war on a second front. Thousands of Palestinians have fled the north of Gaza as Israel has subjected the area to intense bombardment. There are concerns that the conflict could spread to Lebanon’s border with Israel.
