The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has issued a correction regarding the data on crore-plus offers in its placement office’s earlier press note which erroneously mentioned 85 for Rs 1 crore+ packages. The office clarified that in the first phase of placements, 22 students have secured annual pay packages of Rs 1 crore or more, with three being domestic and 19 international. Most of the higher salaries during this year’s placement season have been offered in the research and development space.

IIT Bombay has introduced guidelines requiring permission for political lectures and talks after a PhD student complained about a guest lecture on the Palestine situation. Faculty at the institute have supported the professor who organised the lecture but have criticised the threats made against her. Students and faculty have expressed concern that the new guidelines limit freedom of speech and academic freedom. The institute has appointed a fact-finding committee to investigate and propose action.

An anonymous alumnus has made a generous donation of $18.6 million to IIT Bombay for green energy research.
