Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping may attend the East Asian Summit (EAS) and other meetings with the ASEAN bloc in Jakarta in September. The visit will strengthen India’s ties with ASEAN and affirm India’s Indo-Pacific policy based on ‘ASEAN centrality’. The attendance of both leaders could set the stage for a possible meeting in Jakarta amidst efforts to resolve the Ladakh border stand-off and de-escalate tensions.
