Amid challenges posed by climate change, India is advocating for region-specific ocean observations and the involvement of NGOs to better understand deep-sea ecosystems. At the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, India called for multi-hazard early warning systems, adaptation planning strategies, and increased coastal resilience. The country also emphasized the integration of ocean observation systems, the use of science for policy-making, and region-specific projects showcasing the value chain of operational ocean forecasting. India aims to align its efforts with the UN Ocean Decade Challenges and involve traditional knowledge and various stakeholders in ocean literacy programs. The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development seeks to reverse the decline of ocean systems and promote sustainable development of marine ecosystems.
