Sierra Leone’s former president, Ernest Bai Koroma, flew to Nigeria on a presidential plane after a court permitted him to travel abroad for medical reasons despite facing treason charges. The decision was made amidst worries that the charges could heighten tensions linked to the 2023 election. Koroma’s lawyers called the charges baseless and politically motivated. Upon arrival in Abuja, Koroma was welcomed by Nigerian officials and the president of ECOWAS, raising speculation that a deal had been struck to facilitate his relocation.
Sam Bankman-Fried, co-founder of FTX, plans to hire expert witnesses for his upcoming fraud trial to testify about campaign finance laws, valuations of FTX, and the crypto exchange’s software infrastructure. Bankman-Fried’s defense aims to counter the testimony of his former friends and colleagues who are expected to testify against him.
