The Indian government has announced plans to end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the India-Myanmar border. The FMR, implemented in 2018, allows visa-free travel for residents within 16 km of the border. However, it has been misused by insurgent groups to carry out attacks and escape to Myanmar. The government aims to strengthen border security, curb the influx of illegal immigrants, and disrupt smuggling networks. Fencing along the entire border will be implemented and visas will be required for cross-border travel.

Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Kuki tribes, claims that the ongoing violence in Manipur is a deliberate strategy by the Meitei community to form an independent country. They provide evidence through the arrest of Moirangthem Anand Singh by the National Investigation Agency, who is believed to be connected to a transnational conspiracy involving Myanmar-based leaders of terror organizations. The Kuki Inpi Manipur alleges that the Manipur state government and the Meiteis are colluding with these terror outfits to carry out brutal attacks against the Kuki-Zo community.
