Bomb blasts occurred at a gathering of Christian sect Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kerala’s Kalamassery. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his colleagues were in New Delhi to participate in a CP-M central committee dharna against the Israeli attack in Gaza. Vijayan called it an unfortunate incident and assured a thorough investigation. CPI-M state secretary MV Govindan speculated that the blasts might be an attempt to divert attention from the solidarity for Palestine cause. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor condemned the violence.

A man claiming to be a former member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses was detained for questioning about his alleged involvement in setting off homemade bombs at a meeting of the group in the southern Indian state of Kerala on Sunday, killing two women and injuring dozens of other people, police said.
