A project is underway to conserve the architectural elements introduced in Kashmir by Dogra Hindu kings between 1846 and 1947. Srinagar Smart City Limited and INTACH are partnering to bring back the glory of Srinagar’s Maharaj Gunj market by preserving its vernacular elements, including colonnaded walkways and decorative pilasters. The restoration process includes realigning shop shutters, repainting them, and designing uniform wooden signage for all the shops. The project aims to highlight Srinagar’s rich cultural heritage and attract tourists.
