Japan has fallen behind Germany and lost its position as the world’s third-largest economy. Despite a 1.9% expansion, Japan’s GDP of $4.2 trillion fell short of Germany’s $4.5 trillion. The depreciation of the yen against the dollar contributed to this change. India is expected to surpass both nations in the coming years. Japan faces challenges such as labour shortages and a declining population, while Germany struggles with energy costs and fiscal uncertainties.

Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy defends his recent comments suggesting that youngsters should work 70 hours a week to boost productivity. He emphasised that hard work and a strong work ethic are necessary for a country like India to escape poverty and become prosperous. Murthy himself worked 70 hours a week for over 40 years during his professional life and believes it was not a waste of time.

Companies that embrace remote work have experienced four times faster revenue growth compared to those with strict office attendance policies, according to a survey of 554 public companies. The analysis indicates that fully flexible firms, allowing employees to work remotely or choose their office hours, witnessed a 21% sales increase between 2020 and 2022.

The government is considering implementing productivity assessments for new infrastructure projects to determine their impact on the people.
