IPS officer G P Singh has received relief as the Chhattisgarh High Court stays the trial against him in an alleged extortion case. The Division Bench observed that the complainant’s delayed reporting and failure to seek permission under Section 197 were significant. Singh, who faced previous criminal charges, was also ordered by the Central Administrative Tribunal to have all cases against him quashed and be reinstated.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has deputed State Ministers and senior IAS officers to monitor the flood situation and relief efforts in Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi districts. The Chief Minister has directed officials to take necessary steps to prevent damage and losses. Additional officials from various departments will also be stationed in these districts. Fishermen in the affected areas have been advised not to venture into the sea.

The Supreme Court has stated that judges must adhere to the assigned roster system and refrain from entertaining cases not specifically assigned to them. The court reinforced that taking up a case without the chief justice’s assignment is a gross impropriety. The order was passed while quashing an order by the Rajasthan High Court, imposing a cost of Rs 50,000 on forum-hunting accused who filed a civil writ petition seeking relief indirectly by clubbing FIRs.

The Central government has accepted more than 10,000 claims of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under the Vivad se Vishwas – I scheme, granting about ₹256 crore to firms entangled in disputes. The scheme was announced in this year’s Budget to provide relief to MSMEs impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
