The Tamil Nadu Rice Mill Owners’ Association has submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, urging the government to reduce fixed electricity charges and peak hour charges for rice mills. The recent changes in power tariffs by Tangedco have adversely affected the functioning of rice mills, causing a threat of closure. The association also called for the withdrawal of networking charges and the annual hike in power tariff.

The Kadathur police in Gobichettipalayam taluk arrested a Tangedco employee for causing the death of another worker. The victim suffered electric shock while attending to a power supply fault and died atop an electric pole.
