Indian telcos are alarmed at the Indian delegation’s interventions on the 6 GHz spectrum band at the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC), diverging from the originally agreed position. Discussions seem to be steering towards delicensed WiFi usage, which could harm India’s mobile services interests. Telcos address their concerns in a letter to telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The workforce in telecom service providers involved in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) has grown from 7% to 20% due to the 5G rollout. This proportion is expected to reach 23% by 2024. AI/ML roles in the telecom industry include network security and customer service. The demand for AI/ML professionals is high in different sectors apart from telecom. Telcos like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have ramped up their focus on AI/ML with the rollout of 5G services.
