China is constructing the world’s largest underwater ‘ghost particle’ detector called TRIDENT which is set to capture elusive neutrinos in the deep ocean depths. TRIDENT, slated for completion in 2030, aims to provide valuable insights into the cosmic origins of neutrinos. This ambitious project will utilize over 24,000 optical sensors arranged in a Penrose tiling pattern and will be much more sensitive than the current largest neutrino detector, IceCube.
