A United Nations mission has arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh, following the conflict in the region, to assess humanitarian needs. Almost the entire ethnic-Armenian population has fled the breakaway enclave since it was recaptured by Azerbaijan. The international body gained access to the region for the first time in about 30 years. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has announced an emergency appeal for $22 million to help those fleeing. Azerbaijan is currently conducting re-integration talks with separatist leaders while detaining some senior figures from its former government and military command.
