The Delhi High Court is examining the order that remands Newsclick founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR Head Amit Chakravarty in police custody in a case lodged under UAPA. The court has expressed that there appears to be something missing as the order was passed without hearing their counsel. The Centre has banned jailed separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah’s Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) for five years for its ‘anti-India’ and ‘pro-Pakistan’ activities. Shabir Ahmad Shah, a prominent separatist leader in Jammu and Kashmir, founded JKDFP in 1998. He is currently in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a 2005 money laundering case. He has also been charge-sheeted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a terror-funding case.
