India's upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh, originally slated for August, is facing the possibility of being postponed. The senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed that the tour is not canceled but might need to be rescheduled due to delays in obtaining clearance from the Indian government. The series forms a crucial part of the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP) and is supposed to kick off on August 17 in Dhaka, featuring three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. However, the recent diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh, alongside the changing political landscape in Bangladesh, have cast doubt on the tour's timeline. BCB's media committee chairman, Iftikhar Rahman, mentioned that while cancellation is not on the table as the tour is part of the FTP, there could be a possibility of rearranging it at a more suitable time for both parties, although no specific dates were mentioned. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has hinted at a potential delay in the schedule, but no official statement has been released yet. The necessity for official clearance from the Indian government comes against the backdrop of strained relations between the two countries following the political upheaval that led to the removal of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. India last hosted Bangladesh for a red-ball and white-ball series in September-October 2024, including two Tests and T20Is. With the scheduled start just weeks away, both cricket boards are expected to engage in discussions to identify alternative dates that would be convenient for both sides.
