In a significant development in defence cooperation, India and Australia have launched a joint research project to boost undersea surveillance capabilities. The collaboration, spanning over three years, involves Australia's Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory. The project aims to leverage towed array target motion analysis technology to enhance current surveillance capabilities. This technology comprises a long linear array of hydrophones towed behind a submarine or surface ship to listen to the undersea environment from different directions.
