Delhi Tribunal Orders Rs 2.52 Crore Compensation For Doctor’s Family After Tragic Road Accident

September 11, 2025

In a heart-rending case, a motor accident claims tribunal in Delhi has stepped up to help the family of Dr. Yaseen Khan, a 30-year-old senior resident doctor, who lost his life in a tragic road accident in Okhla in May 2023. The tribunal ordered New India Assurance Company to pay a whopping Rs 2.52 crore to his grieving family. Presiding officer Shelly Arora made it clear that compensation isn’t just a formality or an easy windfall for the affected families. She said, “In a case of death, the legal heirs of the claimants cannot expect a windfall. Simultaneously, the compensation granted cannot be an apology for compensation.” This means the money should fairly match the loss and not be either too little or overly generous. Dr. Yaseen Khan was earning Rs 1.4 lakh every month as a senior resident doctor. He left behind his wife, parents, two little sons, and a baby born four months after his unfortunate death. The tribunal, after carefully listening to eyewitnesses, found that the accident happened because of rash driving by a bus driver. The order also stressed that cases under the Motor Vehicles Act are different from usual civil lawsuits. They must be judged in a practical way, not following strict rules from the Indian Evidence Act. Advocate Sumit Chaudhary, who fought for Dr. Khan’s family, pointed out that the accident and the bus driver’s role were clear facts. He also spoke about the deep financial and emotional pain the family is going through. Interestingly, New India Assurance Company did not deny the bus driver’s fault, opening the door for the heroes of justice to grant the hefty compensation. This big win sends a strong message about the seriousness of road safety and fair support for victims’ families.
