Air Travel Disruptions and Tightened Security Measures in Response to Cross-Border Tensions

May 10, 2025

Air travel across India is set for significant disruptions as heightened cross-border tensions prompt the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to mandate enhanced security protocols at airports nationwide. Major airlines like Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air are advising travelers to arrive at airports at least three hours before departure to allow for increased security inspections. The BCAS rule includes stringent limitations such as Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) and restricted entry for visitors. Airlines have promptly communicated these changes, with check-in counters closing 75 minutes before departure. More than 20 airports in northern and western India have suspended operations, impacting both domestic and international travel. Flight cancellations and rerouting have caused delays, with some international flights avoiding Pakistani airspace. Despite the challenges, Delhi Airport assures that operations are proceeding as usual, urging travelers to rely on official sources for updates. Nations like Australia have revised travel recommendations in light of the situation, advising caution and staying informed. Travelers are urged to stay updated and adjust plans accordingly to prioritize safety.
