A group of Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were trapped in Iran following the conflict, have been successfully rescued and brought back to Chennai. The fishermen, originally from coastal villages in Sivagangai and Uvari regions, had gone to Iran for deep-sea fishing but were forced to stop due to the escalating war situation. Tamil Nadu BJP President, Nainar Nagendran, played a crucial role in coordinating their rescue. Upon learning about their plight, he promptly contacted the Minister of External Affairs, leading to emergency food supplies being arranged for the stranded fishermen on an island. Efforts are in progress to rescue more fishermen from another island. As direct flights from Iran were not an option, the fishermen were transported to Dubai by ship and then flown to Delhi before reaching Chennai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs were acknowledged for their support in facilitating the rescue operation, which was entirely funded by the Tamil Nadu BJP. One of the rescued fishermen, Ajith, expressed gratitude to the BJP for their safe return, highlighting the challenges they faced in Iran. Another fisherman, Anto, thanked the party for providing food and shelter during their distressing time. M from Tirunelveli recounted the difficulties they encountered, emphasizing the lack of support from their boat owner and the intense conditions they endured while stranded. The fishermen lauded Nagendran for his prompt response to their plea for help. At present, all 15 fishermen in their group have returned, while efforts continue to rescue the remaining stranded individuals in Iran.
