Abubacker Siddique, a notorious terror suspect wanted for several serious crimes, including bomb blasts and communal murders, was apprehended by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Tamil Nadu Police. The Director-General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal disclosed that Siddique, known for his expertise in crafting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), was captured in Andhra Pradesh. The ATS conducted two successful operations named Operation Aram and Operation Agazhi, leading to the arrest of Siddique, Mohammed Ali, and ‘Tailor’ Raja. Siddique had been evading law enforcement for approximately three decades while actively engaging in criminal activities across various regions in southern India. Operating under multiple aliases and frequently changing his location, Siddique managed to evade capture due to the scarcity of substantial leads. The suspects assumed various disguises, presenting themselves as real estate agents or textile merchants, allowing them to carry out a wide range of illicit activities with relative ease. The diligent efforts of the ATS team, combining human and technical intelligence, culminated in the apprehension of 'Tailor' Raja in Vijayapura, Karnataka. Raja, a fugitive since 1996, was implicated in multiple criminal cases, including the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts. Despite a prolonged period on the run, with limited photographic evidence available from his youth, Raja had successfully severed ties with his family and friends. DGP Jiwal emphasized the importance of months of dedicated work by the ATS in capturing these high-profile terror suspects.
