Former CJIs Question Unbridled Power in 'One Nation, One Election' Bill

Former Chief Justices of India, J S Khehar and D Y Chandrachud, during a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation-One Poll (ONOP), raised concerns over the 'One Nation, One Election' bill. While they acknowledged the bill's alignment with the basic structure of the Constitution, they questioned the provision granting unbridled powers to the Election Commission (EC). The former CJIs spent hours discussing various clauses of the legislation, pointing out legal loopholes and suggesting amendments.
