Clashes between Syrian government troops and local Druze fighters resumed in the southern Druze city of Sweida, collapsing a ceasefire aimed to end deadly sectarian bloodshed. The outbreak of violence in southern Syria has emphasized frictions among diverse communities. Israeli forces carried out airstrikes to protect the Druze. Civilians and reporters witnessed looting and burning of homes by government forces. Israel's Defence Minister warned Syria to leave Druze alone, while the US is engaging with all parties for peace.
