NATO Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, has urged China, Brazil, and India to exert pressure on Russia to avoid facing US sanctions. This move comes following President Donald Trump's warning of imposing severe tariffs on Russia if a peace deal is not reached to end the war in Ukraine. Trump also threatened secondary tariffs on countries that purchase Russian exports. Rutte emphasized the importance of these three countries playing a proactive role in pressuring Russia. In a recent statement while meeting US senators, Rutte highlighted the significance of China's involvement in the matter. He stated that these countries, especially China, could play a crucial role in pressurizing Russia. Trump had previously expressed intentions to impose higher tariffs on BRICS nations that align with the bloc's objectives to challenge US dominance. Even before Trump's recent threat of secondary tariffs, bipartisan efforts were underway in the US to introduce a bill for stricter sanctions. The proposed legislation seeks a 500% tariff on goods imported from countries that continue to engage in trade with Russia, including oil, gas, uranium, and other exports.
