July 17, 2025

Goa witnessed a significant change in its weather pattern as it received 63.5mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours by July 15, bringing relief from the scorching heat. This rainfall broke a dry spell that lasted almost 10 days with below-average precipitation. Prior to this, there was a noticeable decrease in daily rainfall, hitting as low as 15.4mm on July 14. The state had previously encountered its wettest day of the season on July 3, experiencing 161mm of rainfall in a day, followed by a decrease to 59.4mm the next day. The intensity of rainfall gradually declined over the subsequent days. As a result of the surge in rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Tuesday, anticipating heavy rainfall. Furthermore, a yellow alert was announced for July 16, cautioning about the likelihood of heavy rainfall in isolated areas throughout Goa. The state is also expected to witness winds with speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph in specific regions.
